Core leadership question:
How do leaders build the routines, relationships and expectations that allow pupils to learn well?
Session one summary:
Great teaching depends on more than lesson design. Pupils need classrooms where time is used well, routines are understood, relationships are secure and attention is protected. Without these conditions, even strong curriculum planning and expert teaching can struggle to land.
This session explores how leaders can build the classroom conditions that maximise opportunity to learn. It will consider behaviour, routines, relationships and learning culture as central features of teaching, not separate from it. Through expert input and, where possible, a school-based example, leaders will reflect on how expectations are taught, how routines reduce cognitive noise, and how classroom culture supports all pupils to participate, think and succeed.
Delegates will leave with practical prompts for reviewing the conditions for learning across their own school, including what may need to be strengthened, simplified or made more consistent.
