The LEAP (Learning, Engagement, Access and Participation) department at Birmingham Royal Ballet engage with schools in many ways.
BRB offer their ‘Dance Track’ talent identification programme, identifying potential 6-7 year olds who are then invited onto their programme, with free tuition, free uniform and opportunities to see Birmingham Royal Ballet perform.
They also have a ‘Ballet Unwrapped’ project, which involves them bringing a tour box into school full of resources and a cross-curricular syllabus, as well as a CPD Session for teachers, a workshop in school delivered by a BRB artist and pianist, and a six week lesson plan – immerse yourself in Nutcracker or Still Life at the Penguin Café!
BRB’s third education project is ‘Behind the Movement’ written for key stage 3 and 4, it is a dance science based project focussing on muscles, nutrition, hereditary aspects and all links into the movement of ballet and dance. There is also the opportunity to see a lecture demonstration by company dancers and a workshop with a movement specialist, where they will be taught the RAMP warm up.
