Pupil Premium Review

Our pupil premium review follows the guidance set by the TSC (teaching school council), May 2016.

Reviews will be led by an experienced and independent national leader in education.

Our Pupil Premium Review aims to: 

  • Ensure the needs of disadvantaged pupils are supported
  • Provide a fresh perspective on school pupil premium strategy
  • Support the school self-improvement cycle
  • Identify how the pupil premium strategy can be improved to make greater impact

When would a school review be undertaken?

  • As part of school self-improvement cycle
  • As a result of a section 5 inspection which identifies issues in the provision for disadvantaged pupils
  • Where the local authority, external adviser or the school identifies concerns in t attainment of disadvantaged pupils

How long does a pupil premium review take?

BEP led pupil premium review takes 2.5 days, in line with the national guidance.

Activities include:

  • Planning and Preparation: To include research of the school’s pupil premium strategy; analysis of school data and Ofsted reports; conversation with the head to agree and share an itinerary for the visit, and understand the school profile and the amount of pupil premium funding.

  • Prior to school review visit, school to evaluate the impact of strategies and identify any approaches which may improve outcomes for disadvantaged pupils. These should be discussed with the PP reviewer prior to or on the school visit day.
  • School Visit, evidence gathering: This may include speaking with students, meeting key staff including leaders of English and Maths, SENCO, Headteacher, Chair of Governors/link Governor, parents/carers
  • Analysis of evidence/report
  • Action planning
  • Follow up – evaluation of progress
