Mental Health Trailblazer

In 2018/19, 25 areas across England were selected as trailblazers to launch 59 Mental Health Support Teams (MHSTs) over the year.

In 2019/20, 57 areas will take part (including Birmingham & Solihull), and these will start developing 123 Mental Health Support Teams (MHST) during 2020.

The core function of the MHST will be to deliver evidence-based interventions for mild to moderate mental health issues. The new teams will carry out interventions alongside established provision such as counselling, education psychologists and school nurses building on the menu of support already available and not replacing it.

BEP are involved in a working group with other key partners from the health sector to support the implementation of a MHST in the South of Birmingham.
