Digital Education Partnership – Technology Support

The coronavirus crisis has caused unprecedented challenges for our schools and has highlighted the invisible barrier to learning and attainment caused by IT poverty. The Digital Education Partnership was initially set up to support schools throughout the lockdown, as an essential step in the battle against coronavirus. Despite children returning to school, the need for technology and the disadvantages for those without digital access at home, has been harshly highlighted and cannot be ignored moving forward.

Therefore, despite children being back in school, DEP wants to ensure every child has a device in the home for their educational, social and mental development. If your school is aware of families without a suitable device (laptop/desktop) in the home, please apply for a refurbished device.

These devices can either be donated directly to the family, or can be maintained by the school and act as long-term loans for families.

Focus of the DEP

To work in partnership to:

  • Support all schools across Birmingham, to ensure that all children, including the most vulnerable, have access to online education and well-being
  • To support all schools to initially use their own resources to support home e-learning

  • To build partnerships that will support the digital inclusion agenda by providing financial and in-kind support when needed

  • To work strategically to promote digital inclusion
