Good Morning To You All,
Thank you so much to all the schools who have booked to attend our events since my ‘post-card’ last week. The Families of Schools event now has 43 schools booked on; we are aiming for over 200. Please, please sign up and attend as without every school being represented it is a lot less effective.
A little gift for you all; I’m not sure if you recall in a final blog (issue 54) at the end of the summer term I recommended some reading about how to teach vocabulary robustly. It was those heady days before the summer holidays so everyone who can’t remember is well and truly forgiven!!
Anyway we recommended ‘Bringing Words to Life’ by Beck, McKeown and Kucan. For those of you who didn’t manage to get round to reading it, some English Specialist leaders in Education (SLEs) have worked very hard to produce a synopsis for you which can easily be read in half an hour! It is well worth you passing the document out to all your staff as it works equally well in both Primary and Secondary. I have also enclosed a synopsis of Doug Lemov ‘Reading Reconsidered’ about the types of books children need to be reading in primary school as well as a synopsis of the book as a whole. Please use as you see fit.
In the meantime have a good week everyone and you know where we are if you need anything.
My very best wishes to you all
