x2 virtual, Geography inset days for primary staff. Book both days together or individually.
Join Jon Cannell from the Geographical Association to develop your understanding of both substantive and disciplinary knowledge and how to make the learning of geography engaging, memorable and enjoyable. The day aligns with the 2019 Ofsted framework to support you in successfully leading a subject that is cohesive and well sequenced to allow pupils to know more and remember more. Through a range of practical and creative activities you will explore how to stimulate geographical learning that is relevant, authentic and progressive in order to raise the standard of teaching and learning for all.
Join Jon Cannell from the Geographical Association to deepen knowledge around three key areas of high quality primary geography provision:
Leading geography: consider how to raise the knowledge and expectations of staff and pupils, how to raise geographies profile and how to carry out impactful monitoring and subject improvement.
Geographical Thinking: challenging stereotypes, considering bias and multiple viewpoints, developing values, opinions and a voice around contemporary issues such as the climate crisis are core to thinking like a geographer.
Fieldwork: forms the strand at the core of all geographical learning, whether it be experiencing landscape features, busy urban streets, unfamiliar cultures or taking a moment to notice and explore the fabric of society that helps ground the pupils’ local environment in the context of the global. Fieldwork is motivating, inspiring and connects classroom learning with relevant and authentic places and people.
