NCETM- Guidance on Marking and Feedback for Secondary Mathematics Teaching

Part of every teacher’s job is to help children know whether their independent work in exercise books is right or wrong, and to help them use that knowledge to repair or deepen their understanding.

To this end, the NCETM, working with teachers and Maths Hubs, has produced for secondary schools.

The document distinguish between what teachers write in pupils’ books and the verbal feedback they give at different times. The documents also draw a distinction between what a teacher does to correct a simple slip in a pupil’s working, and what is done in response to something that reflects a lack of understanding.
